Querydrill

Level 2: Aggregation Exercise 17 of 60 Pro

Average salary per department

An SQL exercise from Querydrill. Solve it with a SQL editor in your browser, checked on the rows it returns and again on changed data, and it is checked the moment you submit.

The task

For each dept_id, return the dept_id and the average salary. Leave out employees without a department.

What this exercise teaches

GROUP BY puts all NULLs in one group, so filter them out when they should not count.

A hint if you get stuck

Filter the NULL departments in WHERE, then GROUP BY dept_id.
